BAPTISM IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
The last baptism is in the name of Jesus Christ. This is the baptism
that was in the early church, and is the only valid Baptism in this day that we live in.
This is the one baptism that Paul was talking about to the Ephesians (One Lord, One Faith,
ONE BAPTISM - Ephesians 4:5).
Let us ask ourselves, the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. whence is it? From heaven,
or of men? We cannot reject the counsel of God concerning baptism in the name of Jesus
Christ. Baptism must be performed in the name of the one crucified. (I Corinthians 1:13)
Jesus was the one crucified. After He was risen from the dead, He told the apostles to
preach repentance and remission of sin, beginning at Jerusalem.
(See section entitled, THREE ACCOUNTS OF JESUS' LAST WORDS BEFORE BEING GLORIFIED.)
The apostles were obedient and baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins. As mentioned, this is the only baptism that is valid today. Like a gate into the
city, you must enter by repentance and water baptism so you can walk with Him. And when
you walk with Him, you will he filled with the Holy Ghost and then you will really know
Him! Baptism is included in God's Plan of salvation. "Baptism doth now save us"
When we are baptized in His name,- we take on the name. If not. we have rejected the name.
Name was an ancient synonym for person. Payment was always made in the name of some person
referring to ownership. Therefore, the one being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus
became His personal property. The Bible teaches, "Ye are Christ's.(1 Corinthians
3:23) In HIS name, through faith in His name, is the blood that washed us from sin. As
already mentioned, Paul was baptized and had his Sins washed away. (Acts 22:16)
Peter, in his first sermon to the church preached that EVERY ONE had to be baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ. The Bible is filled with examples of the ONE BAPTISM that Paul told
the Ephesians about.
Acts 2:38 - "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the' name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 8:12 - "But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the
kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized."
Acts 8:36 - "Here is water;. What doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest."
Acts 10:48- "And he commanded them to be baptized in the of the Lord."
Acts 16:15- "She attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she
was baptized..."
Acts 16:30- "Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ...and he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, and
was baptized."
Acts 18:8 - And Crispus believed on the Lord with all his house; And many of the
Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized.
Acts 19:5 - When they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is the only way to get baptized. There are more
than three thousand persons mentioned in the Bible that were baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ. There is not one person mentioned in the early church that got baptized using any
other title or name. Not one!
Be it known unto you all. and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead; neither is there
salvation in any other: For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby
we must he saved." (Acts 4:!0.12)
WATER BAPTISM
Is it done in word? YES
Is it done in deed? YES
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus."
(Colossians 3:17)
GET BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST MANY HAVE HEARD ONLY A PART OF
THE TRUTH
There are many earnest people in this day that have heard a part of the truth, but did
not hear of God's perfect way. Some could be mighty in the scriptures, others instructed
in the way of the Lord, eloquent, speak and teach diligently the things of the Lord, but
not know the perfect way of God. There was a man named Apollos who was all of these, but
did not know all of God's truth. A great thing about Apollos was his humbleness Let us go
to the Book of Acts and read how the way of God was expounded unto him more perfectly.
"And a certain Jew named Apollos, Born at Alexandria, an eloquent man. And mighty in
the scriptures came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being
Fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only
the BAPTISM OF JOHN. (See Section entitled, JOHN'S BAPTISM.) And he began to speak boldly
in the synagogue: Whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard. They took him unto them, and
expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly." (Acts 18:24-26) Apollos bad an
openness and God was able to deal with him. He spake about the Lord for about twenty years
before he knew the whole truth of God. After this time though, he humbled himself and bad
willingness to Hear, see, and obey the perfect plan of God.
THE PERFECT PLAN OF GOD
Aquila and his wife, Priscilla, knew God's perfect plan of salvation. They abode
together with Paul the apostle who was a tent maker by occupation, Because they were of
the same craft Paul started many churches and the One that was later in Aqua's home was no
exception. (1 Corinthians16:19) Paul declared all the counsel of God (Acts 20:20, and
planted many Seeds of salvation. He taught to be baptized getting your sins washed Away,
and to be filled with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 22:16 and Acts 9:17,18) Paul truly planted
many seeds! Note that planted comes from the Greek World Phuteuo, which means to instill
doctrine. Paul told the Corinthians, I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the
increase.
(1Corinthians 3:6) He instilled the doctrine, Apollos fed them, but God got the glory!
Now that Apollos knew the perfect way in Corinth, what happened to? The twelve disciples
he used to preach to in Ephesus? We read from the Scripture that Paul went to Ephesos and
talked with them. 'And it came to Pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having
passed through the Upper coasts came to Ephesus: And finding certain disciples, he said
unto Them, have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, we
have not so much as heard whether there is any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, unto
what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John
verily baptized with the Baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should
believe on Him, who should come after him, that is on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS. And when Paul had
laid his bands upon them, the Holy Ghost Came on them; and they spake with tongues
(evidence of the Holy Ghost), and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve. And he
went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and
Persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.' (Acts 19:1-8)
So the twelve disciples also were open. Humble, receptive and willing to Hear and see what
God had for them, the PERFEGT PLAN OF GOD that Paul taught them. Read the word of God
carefully and see how they were REBAPTIZED, this time in the name of the Lord Jesus, and
were filled With the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues.'
When we read further in the scriptures. We see many hearts were Hardened and believed not,
but spake evil of that way. So there were only A few in Ephesus who listened to the
teaching of Paul. Later Paul writes an Epistle to the Ephesians and says, "To walk
with all lowliness and meekness, With long-suffering, forbearing one another in love.
There is one body, And one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling,
ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM.' (Ephesians 4:2-5)
EXPOUNDED UNTO HIM THE WAY OF GOD...
APOLLOS TEACHES:
About the Lord, but at this time only knows a part of the truth.(Acts 18:25)
And TWELVE DISCIPLES OBEY -
The preaching of Apollos and got Baptized, knowing only John's
Baptism of repentance. (Acts 9: 1-4)
But PAUL PREACHES -
Water baptism and the Holy Ghost. He declared all the Council of God.
(Acts 9:17,18; Acts 22:16; Aces 20:27; Acts 16:14.15)
And AQUILA AND PRISCILLA OBEY -
Paul's preaching. Later they have a church in their house.
(Acts 18:1-5; I Corinthians 16:19)
Now APOLLOS' OBEYS -
Aquila preaching of a more perfect way. (Acts 18:26)
And The TWELVE DISCIPLES OBEY-
Paul's preaching of water and Spirit. Before they knew only a
Part of the truth, but now they now God's perfect truth. (Acts 19: 5-8)
ALL THESE PEOLPE ARE: AND THEY ALL:
Open Repent
Humble Get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
Receptive Get filled with the Holy Ghost
Willing to hear & see Continue steadfastly serving God
...More Perfectly"
(Acts 18:24-26)
ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM
In the day that Paul lived there was one Lord, one faith and one baptism. Today it is
the same, it hadn't changed. There cannot be more than one Lord. There cannot be more than
one faith, and. of course, there can be but one baptism. We have talked about the ONE LORD
(Jesus Christ), that He is God. He is the Same yesterday, and today, and forever (Hebrews
13:8), and His Word shall never Pass away. (Luke 21:55) There is one faith today and we
should earnestly contend for it. Jude wrote, Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write
Unto you of the COMMON SALVATION, it Was needful for me m write unto you, and Exhort you
that ye should earnestly contend For the faith which was once delivered unto The saint.'
(Jude 3) The faith that was delivered unto the saints in the early church Consisted of the
oneness of God, the new Birth (repentance, water baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ, and
being filled with The Holy Ghost). And to continue walking in the love of God, being
separate from sin. This is the ONE FAITH that we must be a Part of. We need to believe
there is one God And that we become saved only when we have the new birth of water and
spirit. God's chosen people will be a people that will continue daily, serving Him, and
will not be conformed to this world. They will be a Praying and loving people with the
love of Jesus Christ, helping and caring for one Another. Can all religions in the world.
All the Doctrines, teachings, and beliefs represent The truth? Of course not it stands to
reason That of all religions being practiced today, Only one can be in complete accordance
with His perfect will. So-called traditional Christianity today is divided into hundreds
upon hundreds of Faiths. Can that be right? Absolutely not does God tell one something and
another? Something else? No. He has but one truth. You might ask yourself, could I know
the Truth, the right way, the ONE FAITH? If a Person is humble. Receptive, and willing to
Hear and see the truth as were Apollos and the twelve disciples, you will know it. You
will have to be willing to change your beliefs though, when they contradict the Word of
God. Most people have a minimum Knowledge of the Bible. This is very sad. You might ask,
what makes this faith Different from all the others? Well, you can see for yourself. Study
the Bible, search it And do as the people from Berea did...They received the word with all
readiness of Mind, and searched the scriptures daily, Whether those thinks were so."
(Acts 17:10,11) Ask God for knowledge and wisdom so, You can understand His Word; The
Bible Says every word of God is pure; he is a shield Unto them that puts their trust in
him. (Proverb 30:5) Let us take every word of God and be obedient to it, so we can know
the way. Don't wait until you come to a Point in your life when you say, I do not Need God
in my life right now. The Bible Says, 'There is a way which seemeth right Unto a man, but
the end there of are the Ways of death.' (Proverbs 14:12) Be ye therefore open so that ONE
LORD Can show you his ONE FAITH. In Ephesians 4:5 we can read, "One Lord, one Faith,
one Baptism.'
ONE BAPTISM
Today, man in many ways does baptism. They have taken baptism and changed the mode.
(See section entitled. TRADITIONS OF MAN.) To make it convenient, they have changed full
immersion to sprinkling and have omitted the name of the one crucified. Man can change the
mode of baptism, but cannot change the Word of God. If we search the scriptures, there are
three baptisms that the Bible talks about. Those that were baptized unto Moses, John's
baptism unto repentance, and the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, according to Acts
2:38. Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is the one Baptism that we need to be obedient
to. It is done by full immersion in water, in the name of Jesus Christ. And is performed
by a believer. It is for men and women of an age of accountability, and is for the Jew and
Gentile. It is the ONE BAPTISM that Paul talks to the Ephesians about. Without this
baptism there is no remission of sins! Read Acts 2:38.
Why did God choose water as an element in baptism? God created the heavens and earth and
does what he pleases. What God says is right is right, and what He says is wrong, is
wrong. We read in the book of Genesis that God used water to destroy sin in Noah's day.
There is proof of this even today when we find a shell or fossil up in a mountain
somewhere and the many other things that scientists have no other answer for. Let's read
about the flood that took place over the entire earth. And God saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth. And that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was
only evil continually. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. And God said unto
Noah, he end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through
them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood.
The flood was forty days upon the earth. And the waters increased and bear up the ark, and
it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon
the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed
exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were
covered.' (Genesis 6:5,8,13.14; Genesis 7:17-19) Noah and seven others believed and obeyed
God and were saved by the same water that destroyed everybody else! Peter wrote. 'God
waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is eight
souls, were saved by water. The like figures where unto even BAPTISM doth also save us by
the resurrection of Jesus Christ.' (1 Peter 3:20,21) If we believe and obey God's word
about water baptism. The same water that will condemn others will save us. We are buried
with Him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with Him. (Read Colossians 2:12). If we are
not buried with Jesus Christ. there is no way we can be risen with Him. And if we are not
risen with Him, then how can we walk with Him in the newness of Life? Know ye not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we
are BURIED with him by BAPTISM into death: That like as Christ was raised from tile dead
by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.' (Romans
6:3,4)
DID YOU KNOW?
Jesus traveled about 60 mile, from Galilee to Jordan to get baptized, and was fully
immersed (full immersion, not sprinkled) in water. Yet some think it is not convenient to
be water baptized!
