The "Oneness" of the Godhead INTRODUCTION This subject causes many to get all worked up over their belief in two or three Gods, and causes many to say that the teaching of Jesus being God is of the Devil. The question of Jesus being God is a subject which, if the Bible was accepted by all as the true word of God and all would let it be the final say, the controversy over this subject would once and forever end. The belief of more than one true God is based on tradition handed down from generation to generation and is contrary to the Bible truths. You may not consider this subject important enough to study it, but Jesus said in John 8:24, "If ye believe not that I am He, (The God that should come, Isaiah 35:4 and John 8:27) ye shall die in your sins." Did Jesus mean what He said? He did. Therefore, I give the scriptures on this subject prayerfully and in the fear of God knowing that we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Romans 14:10. INSPIRATION OF THE WORD OF GOD We must always remember that "All scripture is given
by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished
unto all good works." 2 Timothy 3:16-17. "Holy men of God spake as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 1:21. The Bible was written under the inspiration
of God. The question is asked by some, "If the Bible is the word of God then why does
it contradict itself" They are trying to take one scripture or a part of a scripture
to establish a doctrine or belief. However, the Bible teaches "Knowing this first,
that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." 2 Peter 1:20 THE BIBLE TEACHES ONLY ONE TRUE GOD "Thou believest that there is ONE God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:19. We do well to believe that there is but one God ,because that is all the Bible teaches. Carefully study the scriptures mentioned on the subject as follows: Deut.4:35-The Lord He Is God, there is none else beside Him. Deut. 6:4 - The Lord our God is One Lord. Deut. 32:39 - I, even I, am He, and there is no God with me. I Sam. 2:2 - None holy as the Lord, None beside Thee. 2 Sam. 7:22 - None like Thee - None beside Thee. 1 Kings 8:60 - The Lord is God - There is None Else. 2 Kings 19:15 - Thou art the God even Thou alone. 2 Kings 19:19 - Thou art the Lord God, even Thou Only. Psalms 86:10 - Thou art God alone. Isaiah 40:25 - To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One. Isaiah 42:8 - I am the Lord, and my glory will I not give to another. Isaiah 43:10-1 I - Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after
me. I, even I, am the Lord; and Isaiah 44:6 - I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Rev. 1:11 - (Jesus) Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last. Isaiah 44:8 - Is there a God beside me. There is no God; I know not any. Isaiah 45:5 - I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me. Isaiah 45:6 - There is none beside Me. I am the Lord, and there is None Else. Isaiah 45:15 - Thou art a God that hidest thyself, 0 God of Israel, the Saviour (Jesus). Isaiah 45:18 - I am the Lord; and there is none Else. Isaiah 45:21 - There is no God else beside Me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside Me. Isaiah 45:22 - Look unto Me, and be ye saved. for I am God and there is None Else. Isaiah 46:9 - For I am God, and there is None Else; there is none like Me. Isaiah 48:11 - I will not give my glory unto another. (Isaiah 45:5). Isaiah 48:12 - I am He; I am the First, I also am the Last. (Rev. 1:8) Hosea 13:4 - Thou shalt know no God but Me: for there is no SAVIOUR beside me. (Matthew 1: 2 1). Joel 2:27 - I am the Lord your God, and None Else. Zech. 14:9 - In that day shall there be ONE LORD, and HIS NAME ONE. Phil. 2: 11 - Every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is LORD to the glory of God the Father. Malachi 2:10 - Have we not all ONE FATHER? Hath not ONE GOD created us? Malachi 3:16 - A book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the
Lord. and thought upon Matt. 23:9 - ONE is your FATHER (John 3:16). Mark 12:29 - Jesus says, "The Lord our God is ONE LORD." Mark 12:32 - The Scribes said, "There is one God; and there is none other but He." John 8:41 - We have One Father even God. Romans 3:29-30 - God of the Gentiles and God of the Jews, seeing it is ONE GOD. I Cor. 8:4 - There is none other God but One. I Cor. 8:6 - But to us there is but One God, the Father. Gal. 3:20 - God is One. Eph. 4:5 - One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism. Eph. 4:6 - One God and Father of ALL, who is above all, and through all and in you all. I Tim. 2:5 - For there is ONE GOD. James 2:19 - Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well. Isaiah44:24-Thus saith the lord, thy redeemer and He that formed thee, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by Myself. Matt. 4: 1 0 - Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve. Mark 12:29-30 - The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. WHO IS THIS ONE GOD that we must love with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, the only ONE we are to worship, the only one we are to serve? The Bible answers in Jeremiah 10: 10, "But the Lord is the true God, He is the living God." In Acts 9:5, Saul asked the question, "Who art thou, Lord?" and the Lord said, "I am Jesus." So Jesus is the Lord and the Lord is the true God. JESUS IS GOD Isaiah 7:14 - And shall call His name Immanuel (God with us).Isaiah 9:6 - And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, THE MIGHTY GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Matt. 1:23 - They shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Gen. 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. John 1:10 - He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made by Him. Col. 1: 16 - For by Him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth. Isaiah 43:10 - Teaches that there is but ONE GOD. John 20:28 - And Thomas answered and said unto Him, (Jesus) my Lord and my God. I John 5:7 - The Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost are ONE. I John 5:8 - The spirit, and the water, and the blood agree in ONE. John 10:30 -I and MY FATHER are ONE.
The Jews did not take Jesus to be teaching as the modem preachers of today do, that Jesus meant that He was one person and the Father was another person who were one in purpose, etc., but they took up stones to stone Him. John 10:33, "For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, MAKEST THYSELF GOD." They knew He was teaching that He was God. When Jesus said unto the man in Mark 2:5 and Luke 5:20, "Man, thy sins are forgiven thee." The Jews asked the question "Who can forgive sins, but God alone?" But Jesus answered in Luke 5:24, "But that ye may know that the Son of man (He was both God and man) hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (He said unto the sick of the palsy) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house." Matthew 11:2-5, "Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, and said unto Him, art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them." WHO WAS JOHN LOOKING FOR TO COME? Isaiah 35:4-6, "BEHOLD YOUR GOD WILL COME", and he was coming to do the things that Jesus was doing (Read Isaiah 35:4-10). Therefore when John heard again the things that Jesus was doing he knew that HIS GOD HAD COME and there was not another to look for. Revelation 1: 1 7-18, Jesus declared Himself to be the FIRST and LAST (not the second). Revelation 1:8, "I am Alpha and Omega, The beginning and the ending saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."
JESUS THE SON How could Jesus be God when He was the son of God? John 3:16. How could Jesus be the son of God when He was begotten by the Holy Ghost? Matt. 1:20. How could Jesus be God when He was the son of man? Matt. 16:13. "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, (God was) justified in the Spirit, (God was) seen of angels. (God) preached unto the Gentiles. (God was) believed on in the world. (God was) received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16. John 4:24, "God is a spirit." Luke 24: 39, "a spirit hath not flesh and bones." God throughout the Old Testament did not have a body but appeared to the people in different forms such as the burning bush to Moses, the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night to the children of Israel. Also He sent His angels to many who appeared as men, but no one ever saw God before Jesus was born. John 1: 18, 1 John 4:12. God did not have a body until Jesus was born. John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD." Verse 14, "And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." Gen. 2:7, "God formed man of the dust of the ground." (without the aid of a father and mother.) Verses 21-22. "God took a rib from man and made a woman." (without the aid of a father and mother.) Then why would it seem such an impossible thing for God the eternal spirit to overshadow Mary, a virgin girl, (which He did, Luke 1:35) and make Himself a body. Col. 2:9, "For in Him (Jesus) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Col 1:15, (Jesus) "Who is the image of the invisible God." God the eternal Spirit was the father of the flesh which made Him the son of God. Mary was His mother, therefore He was the son of man. His flesh was the lamb of God to be offered in death as an atonement for the sins of the world. In the flesh He was man. In the spirit He was God. As a man He ate; as God He multiplied bread and fish; as a man He slept in the boat- as God He arose and calmed the stormy waves; as a man He prayed at the grave of Lazarus; as God He raised Lazarus from the dead; as a man He spent nights in prayer- but as God He forgave sins and performed great miracle;. As a man He died; as God He raised Himself from the dead. John 2:19. He was God and man; Father and son; Spirit and flesh in one image, one body. Col. 2:9. He declared Himself to be in heaven while He was on earth. John 3:13. He who was born in Bethlehem was from everlasting. Micah 5:2. Jesus lived before Abraham. John 8:56-58. It was God who purchased the Church with His own blood. Acts 20:28. This son that was born in Bethlehem declared Himself to be the FIRST and the LAST - THE ALMIGHTY Rev. 1:8, 17, 18. The scriptures below are but a few of the many which teach that what God was in the Old Testament, Jesus Christ is in the New. Rev. 1:7-8 - Jesus was the Almighty. Gen. 17:1 -And the Almighty was God. John 8:58 - Jesus was the "I AM". Exod. 3:14 - The "I AM" was God. Acts 3:14 - Jesus was the "HOLY ONE". Isaiah 43:15 - And the "HOLY ONE" was God.
